held Friday, September 5th, 2014 at 11:00am at The Egg and I Restaurant on the West Beltline. Meeting Facilitator Elaine Statz Penpek Meeting Minutes provided by Jeanne O'Neill Skilton Posted by Dan Nelson on September 8th, 2014
The Egg and I Restaurant, Madison, WI September 5, 2014 The meeting was called to order by Elaine Statz Penpek at 11:10 a.m. Those attending: Elaine Statz Penpek, Jeff Hansen, Margie Thompson Hanson, Jeanne O'Neill Skilton, Barb Feiler Powers, Sue Ferris Carter, R. Dan Nelson, Karen Weatherwax Miller, Patti Parent Callaway, Lynn Hogan Case, Barb Jallings Albrecht, Jeanne Lorimer Moren. Unable to attend: Sandy Lyons Adams, Barb Wedell Bailey and Ginger Crownhart Brenneis. Treasurer: Jeff Hansen will be the co-signer for the bank account. Friday night Event: Jeff Hanson researched and reported on Top of the Park. This room at the Best Western Plus Inn on the Park was available the three dates discussed at last reunion committee (July 24, July 31 and August 7). Cost: $375.00 for room from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. plus $45 an hour for bar tenders. The event will be appetizers and cash bar. The hotel is across from the Capitol and has a great view from the top floor. The other locations for the Friday night event were briefly discussed, but dates were not available and/or too expensive. After discussion the consensus was to have the Top of the Park as the location for the Friday, July 24, 2015 event.
Block of hotel rooms: Jeff Hansen was told by group sales at the Best Western Plus Inn on the Park Hotel that we could reserve a block of rooms at the hotel ($159, $179 a night rate) for those who would need rooms overnight. Jeff will block off a group of overnight rooms and we will have until a month before the event to sign up for those rooms. When you "block" rooms the hotel "unblocks" them a certain amount of days before the event. This will go out with the information about the reunion. Dates for reunion: After a brief discussion, the consensus was to have the 55th reunion on Thursday, July 23 through Saturday, July 25th. Jeanne Skilton will notify the Wisconsin High 55th reunion committee about the dates. Wisconsin High held their 50th reunion the same time as ours. Some classmates got together with friends who were in their same neighborhood or church group during high school. Thursday night Event: Sue Carter researched and reported on the Betty Lou Cruises for a sunset dinner cruise for Thursday night. They have 2 yachts on Lake Mendota. One yacht holds 42 guests maximum and second one holds 36 guests maximum. They charge per person depending on the menu and beverage selections. After discussion is was the consensus of the committee that it would be a great Thursday night event for this reunion. It was also the consensus of the committee to have the "Ballpark" menu at $29.99 (plus some taxes and surcharges) per person. Sue Carter will sign the booking contract for Thursday, July 23 and at that time will pay a $500 deposit. Several committee members volunteered to pay the entire cost for the reunion in advance to help pay for the deposit.
Saturday Event: After discussion it was the consensus to have a noon picnic on Saturday afternoon, July 25, 2015 at Vilas Park, where we had our senior class picnic. Patti Callaway volunteered to go Nov. 1 (first day to sign up for park shelters) to secure this location for the afternoon of Saturday, July 25. Hoyt Park was another suggestion. Barb Powers and Barb Albrecht volunteered to co-chair this event. Since the Thursday night event will have the "ballpark" menu, Barb Powers will look into alternate menus. Other suggestions from the committee: There has been some interest in having an event at the newly remodeled Edgewater Hotel . Sue Carter contacted them about a possible event. They are moving offices and not able to give prices, etc. for a July, 2015 event. The Edgewater is an expensive place to plan an event with a large room charges, etc. The committee recommends that our classmates talk with others and maybe go to see it/have lunch/have a drink at the Edgewater, which has been completely remodeled. It was the consensus that the reunion committee will not organize small group get-togethers. During the 50th reunion some classmates organized grade school and church group get-togethers during the times when there are no planned reunion events. Reunion Registration Form: It was the consensus of the committee that the registration form go out in January. The registration form will have the events and prices for the events. Jeanne Moren, the treasurer, will receive the checks and then report the names of those attending to Dan Nelson to post on the website. The committee recommends registering early and checking the website to see who is coming. The meeting was adjourned at 12:10. Respectfully submitted, Jeanne O'Neill Skilton, Secretary Click here for a History of Our Reunion Events (pdf) (36 KB)

held Thursday, July 10th, 2014 at 11:00am at The Egg and I Restaurant on the West Beltline. Meeting Facilitator Elaine Statz Penpek Meeting Minutes provided by Jeanne O'Neill Skilton Posted by Dan Nelson on July 15th, 2014
The Egg and I Restaurant, Madison, WI July 10, 2014 Present:
Committee members who indicated they could not attend:
Elaine Penpek called the meeting to order at 11:15 a.m. TREASURER: Jeanne Lorimer Adams Moren volunteered to continue as Treasurer.. Sharon Reynolds Chamberlain volunteered to be the second signer. SECRETARY: Jeanne O'Neil Skilton volunteered to be secretary. DISCUSSION ABOUT THE 50TH REUNION AND OTHER CLASS REUNIONS: West Class of '58 and '59 did several casual events and not a formal dinner. Class of '59 planned appetizers and cash bar at Zor Shrine and a picnic at Lake View Park and had about 90 attend. Consensus of committee is that a formal dinner would not be as good as more casual events. The Madison Club with food stations was a special event for the 50th and about 200 attended. Some attended only the casual event on Friday night at the Coliseum Bar and some attended only the event at the Madison Club. Most attended both. We expect fewer classmates for the 55th reunion. DISCUSSION ON WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITES: Consensus is that there be two events and more casual than the 50th reunion. Possibilities would be a lunch instead of a dinner and a casual evening with appetizers and cash bar. DISCUSSION ON LOCATION OF EVENTS: Committee members will e-mail Elaine Penpek the results of their inquiries in the next few weeks:
DISCUSSION ABOUT WHEN REUNION SHOULD BE HELD: It was the consensus that the last two weeks in July or first two weeks in August would work well. It avoids the 4th of July holiday and the "in and out" of summer/fall UW students. No decision will be made on date until we have the information about prices and availability. DISCUSSION ABOUT THE DIRECTORY AT REUNION TIME: Jean Dudley Bass has volunteered to work with Elaine Penpek and Dan Nelson on the directory. ANNUAL NEWSLETTER "60 MINUTES": Elaine will produce a newsletter in September to announce the date/place and ask for updated information for directory. She will also ask for input on the 55th reunion. WEBSITE: Dan has agreed to again man the website. He's also scanned all the graduation pictures for future use. NAMETAGS: Barbara Jallings Albrecht volunteered to do them again this reunion. NEXT COMMITTEE MEETING: Elaine will notify the committee via e-mail when and where the next committee meeting will be. By then the information will be gathered by committee members about locations and prices. QUESTIONS ABOUT THE REUNION SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO ELAINE STATZ PENPEK (FACILITATOR FOR REUNION). Meeting was adjourned at 12:15 by Elaine Penpek Respectfully submitted, Jeanne Skilton, Secretary Click here for a History of Our Reunion Events (pdf) (36 KB)
